Hi Jerryb. I Dont think anyone posts here anymore. I've got the link to this page on my personalised homepage so its always available and I check in every now and again. Months go by without any posts. Think everyone has migrated to daytime jobs in the real world, myself included. I have to admit I want develop another online income stream again, but will it be in adult, I dont know.

No time for online work? I know the feeling. I now work self employed as a so called retail specialist, a glorified name for a rep for any company that wants to pay me. At this time of year working between 10 and 14 hours a day. Safe to say I'm not a fan of the xmas shopping madness, and definitely not the way the stores / shops force it down our throats. Having said that, it keeps me in a job and pays the bills

Always happy to see a familiar name popping up to say hello

Heya SD,

Good to see there is someone still about, I guess the times have well and truly changed and most of us have gone other ways.

All is good for me but web building for me now is for pleasure rather than profit. I've been out of adult for a long time now and looking at some of what is on offer I am glad. The faux violence niches that have appeared are particularly disturbing.

A very sad day in history today, I hope we all come out of it with as little damage as possible.

Having a very rough time in losing balance and falling. Fell on the cement face down 2-3 weeks ago and lost a lot of blood from my forehead 1" cut. Not pretty sight for sure. Hi mr.licious

To be honest I've never looked into making my sites more friendly for mobile access. I'm kind of assuming that there must be some way to detect what they are viewing on (probably via there browser) and then direct them to a set of pages more appropriate.

Sounds simple so far, and easy enough with a little google'ing to acquire the knowledge to put into practice. My hurdle is finding the time to make the necessary changes across a number of domains, potentially thousands of pages.

I will look further into this. Now that I've almost finished weeding out all the dead sponsors and links from my sites they are starting to look a bit 'empty' and lacking in content. The next stage I've already started is finding new site specific / niche sponsors. As I start to contact them individually for exclusive content / promo pics, thats the point when I'll need to look into your idea of creating mobile access friendly pages.

Damn, so that will be quite soon then

Thankyou for sowing the ideaq in my head and doubling my potential workload in one simple sentence

All the best

After quite a few years of letting my domains sit around going downhill I've spent months trying to get all the sites back up and running. I'm nearly at the stage where I've consolidated all gallery pages into one central location (instead of scattered over a dozen domains) and weeded out all the dead sponsors. Its a real eye opener seeing how many sponsors have gone out of business.

Now I've almost finished the massive cleanup process I'm left with about 10 personal tgp sites and a similar number of old fashioned toplists. Don't knock toplists, they generate a surprising amount of traffic. I think they are so old fashioned that they make a 'modern' day surfer stop in their tracks and say "what is this, I must start clicking links to see where they go", lol.

To summarize, I've enjoyed getting back into adult sites and now they have become a part of my normal daily routine. But now I have a day job finding the time is a problem. I look forward to the day when a substantial part of my income is generated from adult sites again. Ah, the good old days.

Getting the old sites back up and running is one thing but I know I need to find a new style of site that will appeal to the modern surfer. Thats the next challenge. Or just stick with the old tried and tested sites, as the newer surfers are rediscovering them? Who knows but I'll be sure to share my findings here.

mr_ritto, RE: message #300690:

Hey mr_ritto! It sure feels good to see atleast one familiar name

You still doing adult?
No, i dont, not sure if this is good or bad. All my domains have expired long time ago, some are even bought up by resellers and now up for sale for huge prices - good luck with that

However i still operate a small online clothes shop, which gives me more headache than money - few hundred € per month at best of times. I did a major flop with a local social network site, i probably had to pay them some money and it would be ok - shop had 16K followers at one moment, but there were some delays with shipping, and eventually they just kicked me out for good.
Sales dropped to virtually zero. Now though i get most of my traffic from the Big G, so its small but stable.

Also i still do a bit of a speculation on financial markets, but im quite far from laughing all the way to the bank. Eventually though this will be my main source of income - it has had its ups and downs through recent years, but overall my base capital has a positive growth.

Other than that, i spent 3 years being a full time dad - son will be 4 years old this april. Its been challenging, to say the least, but you probably already know how that is

Last, but not least - 4 months ago i joined my brother in his small business - he owns a tool repair shop, and i out of sheer boredom decided to jump in and try to help grow it and expand it, and also gain some experience from that.
So now i can fix angle grinders, drills, power screwdrivers, lawnmowers, trimmers, pallet lifters etc.etc. The pay? Minimum salary, which is about enough to buy me petrol to get to work and eat a couple of times per day, so technically its not worth it, i would not do it if it was for someone else.
There is a growth potential, as we try to specialize on selling spare parts from manufacturers to other repair shops, bro has made some good connections with manufacturers in China, Russia, Poland, Czech republic and so on.
It remains to be seen if this ever takes off the ground, but im ready to give it a year or two and see what happens.

As to adult thing as a whole - i give it a thought now and then, i guess the basic principle is still valid - get traffic, filter it and direct it to something that can generate money. Am i ready to jump in on all that? I dont know, it seems like too much hard work. Maybe as a hobby project in future...

Anyway, nice to see you, i will try to drop by every few days, give good ole newbiebooster a boost
It now has been... 14 years, since i made first post here in 2001.

Hi Zel

I still glance at this page as part of my daily routine, although not on a Friday evening as I tend to be a bit drunk. Hard week at work and all that

You still doing adult? Due to a day job I don't get much time nowadays but over the last few weeks I've been completely revamping my old tgp and toplist sites. Yes, these kind of retro websites still get lots of traffic, and where there's traffic, there's sure to be sales. Unfortunately the tgp script I'd been using for about 10 years has stopped working, due to upgrades in php on the servers. Took me about a week to find a replacement that I could actually install.

And before anyone asks, yes I did try Toms simple tgp script. Again, not working due to server installed php upgrades. Anyways, I went with RSTGP. Its free, 1% almost un-noticeable traffic skim. Suits me fine. Got my first rough working version up here ...

http://www.pixiedress.com/rt/

I should have warned of male nudity

Its only when you look back at old sites you realise how dated things are, and quite often how bad they are. Still though, I'm not going to go back and redesign old gallery pages. I'm going to move forward and create new better ones with fresh content.

All the best to Zel and TNB

zombiao v. verotel

A few years ago a lot of adult companies were 'kicked out' from verotel due to silly stricter rules, so a lot of the adult companies moved to zombiao as their payment processor. For whatever reason (rules relaxed again?) I've noted that a majority of these companies have now returned to verotel as their main payment processor.

Do a quick check on your sponsors to see who they currently use and change your referral codes accordingly. I've been losing money left right and center by not keeping up with the changes. Serves me right for thinking my adult sites will keep bringing in the pennies without some basic managerial skills and keeping on top of changes.

Bummers!

Those are a good idea Mr. Ritto. Many of our cooking tools are electric or electronic nowadays. It would be a rude awakening to find the pantry full of canned goods that you couldn't open easily or safely when you need them. I saw a list the other day that included a can opener and I was actually surprised that I hadn't thought of it. In my defense, however my can opener is not electric.

Even in the metro areas where we are used to well stocked shelves at our local markets, all it takes is a damaged road in the right place to make it difficult to get supplies to where they are needed quickly.

I agree with Karla in that the media only seems to highlight the more spectacular elements of the survivalist movement. I think this causes some folks to kind of want to ignore the whole thing.

My most recent cheap additions to my 'grab bag' ...

A couple of P38 tin openers. If you are not familiar with these do a quick google search. Very small and incredibly easy to use. I used to use these as a teenager when camping out with the army cadets.

Water purification tablets. Tiny, cheap, take up virtually no space, yet potentially lifesaving.

All the best from a surprisingly sunny Scotland, hopefully soon to be independent

i'm NOT - particularly - a fan of the term prepper. u.s. tee-vee has really painted a negative picture of some of "those" people. they seem to want to sensationalize on some the crazies, thus demonizing the practice. i, myself, having been in the news media and emergency ham radio operations in the past TOTALLY believe in being prepared. i live in an area prone to severe weather, with a really crappy power company. if you think for one second that someone else (like the government) is going to take care of you in a so-called (even temporary) "grid down" situation, you're just plainly nuts! as an example, i'll direct you to the "great job" they did during hurricane katrina and hurricane sandy. look in the mirror: only YOU are responsible for the well-being of yourself and your family - period.

on a communications note (plug for ham radio): if you think your cell or smart phone is going to be of great assistance - forget it. cell towers will either be offline or jammed. an old saying holds true: amateur radio gets through when nothing else can.

ritto: at MY age in the united states, there is NOT one single employer who would hire me. add to that, i have one eye and walk with a cane. even with my background, i couldn't get a minimum wage job as a dishwasher! as a result, i've HAD to create jobs for myself. fwiw, you couldn't PAY me to take a "government hand out" - which seems to be the rule of thumb in my region. everybody wants that gummint check and their yams (food stamps). i couldn't live with myself!

Yep, I don't call myself a prepper but ...

For some reason my grown up children keep buying me small 'survival' items as presents, and with my general interest in all things green (olive, and military) I seemed to have ended up with a bunch of rather useful items scattered around the house and shed. So earlier this year I started gathering them all up and putting them together in a nice easy grab bag. I doubt I'll be able to survive the end of the world as we know it but I'll be a damn site better off than the average person. Shelter, fire, and the means to catch / kill food, in an ex army canvas bag, smaller than the average carrier bag we use to bring the grocery's home from the supermarket.

When its so simple to do, it seems foolish not to. And yes, I do have paracord

Been gardening today, must be something about getting older. Turned 50 earlier this year.

As for adult, I'm in the process of reviving my sites. The old days of between £800 and £1000 a month are long gone but I'm going to get them back to that level within a year or two, part time. That way I'll have to work less hours. That's the theory anyway. Apparently I'm good at what I do and have to turn down work on an almost daily basis. Unfortunately the work I do doesn't pay too well so it does mean longish hours in order to make a decent wage. 10 to 12 hours a day with extra paperwork in the evening is the norm, and that's just too much.

I don't know what its like in the states but across here in the UK once you turn 50'ish its quite hard to find a new full time job. Guess I'm stuck with self employed merchandising work I do. Until I reclaim my adult empire back

All the best

I've been a prepper for decades and have become even more so in recent years.

Still I don't understand the fad of prepper gear made of paracord. If your rifle sling is made out of paracord, then unravel it to rig a shelter, what do you use for a rifle sling?

Easy enough to have a hank of paracord and maybe a small roll of tarred bank line in your jump bag.

Hello TNG gang!

I'm getting ready to go to my part time retail job at the moment. Retail clothing
is lots of work but it's kinda fun. I do get tired of picking up after a crowd of
customers runs through all the merchandise though. They basically take the store
apart and you are expected to rebuild it all day long. When I shop I try to be neat
about it. Not these folks. They just throw stuff everywhere. I find myself getting
this strange urge to slap people throughout the day.

Been kind of quiet here. Where u at Crazy Ernie? Hope you are doing better Jerry B.

Have a great day all.

the ACA (as written) is being frowned upon by the majority of americans because it was passed, really, without being read completely (and we're talking thousands and thousands of pages)...it was a last minute thing. i remember watching the debates on tee-vee from the house and senate floors for hours and hours (late into the night) when it was passed. it is so complicated, even MY physician - today - doesn't know how it will affect him or his patients. from the beginning of implementation, the whole thing has been plagued with massive problems. first the website didn't work (still is a mess), many state exchanges are plagued with problems, and people's premiums, in most cases, have doubled or tripled...or their policies were voided because they didn't meet the new guidelines, and ended up without insurance. and those are the MINOR issues, LOL! despite "glowing reports" from the administration, the majority of people are unclear about it and think that it needs to be taken back to the drawing board. now, don't get me wrong, our medical system needs to be revamped - TOTALLY - anyway, but they pushed a bill through that was not ready, poorly written, and does nothing to benefit anybody - except the insurance companies. in essence, its a mess!

"Speaking of Scotland, I'll be voting for independence in the Scottish referendum in 6 months time"

i figure you would...and i TOTALLY support you. good luck on that. if it passes, we've been looking for a place to move!

that IS correct, but many studies have proven that the test is, indeed, inaccurate and can give off a false positive...so you would have to get a colonoscopy anyway to verify. as a matter of fact, several national news networks on teevee have (this past week) reported EXACTLY what i am saying about the accuracy of the test.

Karla, the NHS has been the UK's free health service for 100% of the population since 1948, paid for by taxation on wages (ok, nothing is really free). I'm not sure why ACA is frowned upon? If the poorest can get decent health care not dependent upon their income, isnt that a good thing? And if they cant get decent health care under ACA, then they should. The days of having to pay to see a doctor should be resigned to the dark ages. It is true that in parts of the UK (England only) you still have to pay for a prescription, but even that has been abolished in the forward thinking countries like Wales and Scotland. Not sure about Northern Ireland.

Speaking of Scotland, I'll be voting for independence in the Scottish referendum in 6 months time

Hello everybody, LTNS

don't send them your poo!

I kinda disagree, but that probably depends on where you live. While I was still working as a chef aeons ago I had to send in my youknowwhat so they could check whether or not I'm hosting nasty evil creatures which could harm the customers. In fact, I had to send it in even before I could start the training for becoming a cook. I don't know if you have to do this in the US or UK.

As for getting DNA: If they really wanted to get your DNA (and I wouldn't be surprised too much if they would in times of NSA and GCHQ and all the other Big Brothers around the world watching and recording all sorts of communication), they'd have other easier, more convinient, and "cleaner" ways to get it like blood or pee samples. Heck, if they really wanted DNA they could just get it from any glass of water they offerd you to swallow a pill.

You are right however, colonoscopy is the best way to discover some really bad deseases like colorectal cancer at a very early stage so that it an be cured very easily. Over here they advice to make a colonoscopy from 50 onwards. One colonoscopy "lasts" 5 or 10 years. So once you had one you shouldn't have to worry about colorectal cancer for the next 5-10 years.

My neighbour just had one. It was indeed not a pleasure she said...

IF they "suspect" a problem, they will want to to have colonoscopy (sp) - a camera shoved up your, well, you get the idea. either way, it is something i would not advise.

i would assume that your HNS is like the ACA (affordable care act - in the u.s.). don't fall into the trap!

run - run like the wind...with your arse AWAY from them! OR just send them poo from your chickens or a dog, ROFL!

I'm just turning 50 and so thinking a bit more about getting older. Got a letter yesterday from the NHS (national health service) inviting me in for bowel screening, yummy. Apparently they send out a 'kit' and all I have to do is send back a 'sample' for them to test. That should be an interesting visit to the bathroom. When I saw the letter I thought they were sending me a birthday card, like "congratulations on making it this far", lol. Instead they want a shit sample. You got to laugh

Also bought an external usb3 external hard drive so in theory I should be fully backed up, assuming I make the backups

As for adult, I seriously regret allowing my domains to look after themselves. Time is always the issue. Working 10 to 12 hours a day and then paperwork and results to enter when I get home is not ideal for keeping on top of websites or researching and building new niche pages. One day I will revivie all to its former glory.

Still get checks in the post, one arrived today for $200 although I admit they are few and far between. My partener is off work sick for a few months so I'm going to give her a crash course in websites and encourage her to get the sites back in shape. Sneaky

That is a HUE stone and Urologist said it damaged my urinary tract q uite a bit and bladder for sure. Got to go in for tests later today to see if they can bring it around to clearing up things somehow. It seems there isn't a day that I don't fall over in the garage, kitchen or somewhere around here causing me problems of some kindd. Sure hope it gets better as time goes by and heals up to where I I am better. And, hope you all are on the better side of healing...Little prayer for all of you all you all as time flies by for sure. Well, I'm back again.

My HD crashed the day after I checked in. Of course I have a backup.

Popped it in and the reinstall crashed about half way through the reinstall.

No Problem. I got original Windows disk.

Which crashed about half way through the install.

At which time I realized, My DVD reader was scratching the disks.

So I had to buy a new DVD drive then find a copy of Windows I could afford.

But I'm back now.

Sorry to hear about all the trouble everyone is having. Seems like everybody is getting kicked around somehow.

I been doing OK. My day job employer has kept me employed throughout the recession, but I had to move around a lot to follow work.

Been bounced around to four states, did get to enjoy a year in Panama City FL.

But all is pretty much well.

My adult empire is down to one page each on about 5 domains. But still bringing in an occasional check.

Not doing much on the web at all.

Glad to see all the old friends still around.

You had a hard time there, not good. Frostnip is not something I've experienced so I'm afraid I cant empathize in a meaningful way, but I dont like the sound of it.

I recall about a decade ago I fell asleep in front of the computer, head resting on arm on top of the keyboard. I suspect strong alcohol had a part to play in this sorry situation but we'll not go into that aspect any further. Anyway, in the morning I couldnt feel my arm from the elbow downwards. It was completely numb and I had no control of my hand, it felt like a lump of wood attached to the rest of my body.

The only advice I got at the time from so called internet friends was that I should play with myself (in a private way) as it will feel like someone else doing it Yes, the internet was really mature in those days

Now I'm not suggesting you should do the same Hope things improve for you a lot quicker than my hand did. On the other hand, I did have some fun ...

Hi y'all...haven't posted for a long time here and wanted to let you all know I'm getting along in age at 77 yearsw old now and having some rough times. Wife has been in Nursing home with Alheimersw since last June. I had a bad thing ha ppen to me 2 weeks ago today. Went out to get the mail in 4F (-20 wind chill factor) weather and fell over on the edge of the road by the driveway entrance. And, I tried for 15 minutes to get up or flag a car down to help me. yELLED AS LOUD AS I COULD "HELP HELP HELP" TO NO AVAIL. About 20 carsw passed me ande no one would stop and help me. I then had to crawl, bare handed through the ice and snow about 100' to get to the house and inside and in doing so ended u;p with frostnip on all 10 of my fingersw. I am making typing mistakes because I have abswolutely NO feeling in any of my fingers. I was ;probably about 10 minutes from getting full blown frostbite and p;ossible am;putation of finger ti;ps. 2 weeks later (todeay) I still have NO feelings in my fingertips. Totally numb,. I really' thought I was going to die out there as I couldn't get any help from anyone. Really was scared for sure. But with Gods help I made it through. DR said, "If the numbness goes away' it might take a year or better to do so. It is really odd typing with no feeling whatswoever. The problem is that they have discovered that they can generate a lot of attention which equates to free advertising by doing this. Indeed every news outlet in the country seems to eagerly comply and cover all the details of the big sale, and of course they mention all of the stores by name many times during the season. It seems like the definition of what is actually news has become muddled over the years

I've been a bit busy with the job thing as well, so not so much energy for the web

I did find that adult was more motivating to me than mainstream, however I assumed that if I could see some money rolling in that might change things and that is probably still true.

Chocolatesafari.com is a work in progress, but with a little less emphasis on progress these days LOL

Here in the USA everybody is getting ready for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday.

Then all heck breaks loose as Christmas shopping kicks into full gear.

I will be working the holidays this year, but the money's nice.

However, I'm thinking about doing some more and some more advanced stuff with chocolate like creating moulds with silicone and then making "chocolate-sculptures" with them. Maybe I'll record this.

But still: Rewriting and expanding my existing articles is #1 top-priority at the moment. I only have ~500 articles left to do

Heya Dandy11

Just wondering if you had considered making your own cooking videos to bulk up sites. Post them on youtube, links to your sites, talk up some products you may have affiliate links to etc?

I remember you said you cook and taste all the recipes you were putting up so just a matter of recording and commenting as you go.

Maybe even helping out your friend cook up sweets or cakes that you can record and also sell them in the restaurant.

Heya All

I've been done with adult for a long time now, in fact the tiny amount of mainstream web work I do is purely for interest sake. I kept starting big projects bogging down and winding them up as my heart just isn't in it anymore.

In fact I posted the last few of my personal adult domain names left are for sale over on GreenGuys board,

Any TNBers I know interested in any just let me know for mates rates. One way or another I'll be finallising them in ~2 days.

In short, "Penguin" penalizes sites which have "unnatural links" pointing to them i.e. spammy links from guestbooks, "louis viton" kind of links from blog-comments and such. see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Penguin

"Panda" penalizes sites with "thin content" or "low quality sites" in general, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Panda

Right, so the next old-time newbie is here. Hello everybody, how y'all doing?

I noticed that my last post is from a half a year ago so I'm going to give a short little summary of my ventures, just in case someone is interested. If not - you can stop reading now!

I'm now officially and 100% pure mainstream, no porn left at all. I let expire the last 2 adult domains I owned sometime this summer, including the very first domain I ever registered some 12 years ago.

Nowadays, I'm building all my websites, big or small, on wordpress. I still do have a few Joomla sites but I'm in the process of transferring all of them to wordpress. Wordpress has come a long way from a simple blogging-software to a full-blown CMS which is quick, reliable, easy to understand and work with and which has everything I want and need.

I don't do any "design" anymore and rely completely on other peoples' work in terms of layouts, themes, and such. I'm concentrating on researching and writing articles mostly about food-stuff, recipes and such.

Currently, I don't do any new stuff, I registered my last new domain like in February or so. Instead, I'm expanding, refining, and changing my old articles. The reason for this is mainly because I got hit pretty hard by Google's Penguin- and Panda-Updates. I had a lot of "thin content"-articles which Google frowns upon nowadays and I got kicked pretty hard into my balls by all the Google updates and lost 90% of my traffic on some of my sites. I had to delete some articles completely, merge some others and I am in the process of expanding most of the others. The traffic and my income is steadily but very slowly reviving but nowhere as good as it was 2 years or so ago.

I also started to work as a cook in a small restaurant again. It's just a couple of hours a month and it's more to help a friend out and to have some fun but the money I earn there is more than welcome at the moment.

That's about it in (not so) short. Hope you're all happy and healthy and you're all doing great with whatever you're doing!

Looks like all the 'old timers' are reporting in, and that includes me

In real life I'm working all the hours in the day and still having to turn down work. I wish this meant I was rich but its mostly next to minimum wage stuff so it means long hours to make a living wage.

Online, I still have most of my tgp's and toplists ticking away, earning less than a quarter of what they used to a few years ago, but still there and providing the odd welcome check. I'm constantly struggeling to find the time to work my way around all the sites refreshing content and culling the dead links.

Unfortunatly the real job gets in the way as it eats up all the hours. And as its based in the retail market the next 3 months are my busiest period, so not a chance on finding the extra hours I need until sometime next year

Did anyone mention christmas, lol, I just did. Its not a holiday period for me, it means months of hard graft and as much work as I can handle. One problem I have in the day job is finding my car. I can visit upto 15 supermarkets in a day and after about the 5th visit you find that every carpark starts to look the same. Now where did I park this time ...

roswell had a number of oddities. IF you research the records (which i have) and interviewed certain people (which i also have)...you will find out some extremely fascinating information. which, all-in-all is also connected to wright-pat afb and ORNL.

go back MUCH further to the late 1800's in aurora, texas...a mysterious airborne craft smashed into a windmill. two small beings (not from around here) met their demise. you can read several accounts of this incident. however, i interviewed "ma biggers" (biggers funeral home) the grand daughter of the local mortician...who to the day in 1975 (when i interviewed her)...recalled the exact event.

my old friend, jim marrs, is an expert on aurora. he is also an expert on roswell, as is stan friedman...who wrote the "definitive" book on roswell.

we are NOT alone. just sayin'

Some HILLARITY from Crazy Ernie:

Well, now we know where the problems were conceived...

The year was 1947. Some of you will recall that on July 8, 1947, a little more than 66 years ago, numerous witnesses claim that an Unidentified Flying Object, (UFO), with five aliens aboard, crashed onto a sheep & mule ranch just outside Roswell, New Mexico. This is a well known incident that many say has long been covered-up by the U.S. Air Force, as well as other Federal Agencies and Organizations. However, what you may NOT know is that in the month of April, year 1948, nine months after the historic day, the following people were born:

> Barrack Obama Sr.

> Albert A. Gore, Jr.

> Hillary Rodham

> William J. Clinton

> John F. Kerry

> Howard Dean

> Nancy Pelos

> Dianne Feinstein

> Charles E. Schumer

> Barbara Boxer

> Joe Biden

This is the consequence of aliens breeding with sheep and jack-asses. I truly hope this bit of information clears up a lot of things for you. It certainly did for me. And now you can stop wondering why they support the bill to help all Illegal Aliens.

After doing a Bing search I found out that XP and Win7 have programs built right into them for transfering files from an old computer to a new one. All you need is a usb-usb cable for transfering filed from old to new at Best Buy. It transfers ALL files and then you have to install the original program file like Dreamweaver on to the new computer. When you fire up Dreamweaver ALL the webpage files are already there to use. Made it real easy to do. Took about 3-4 hours total time and I am up and running much faster than my old XP system.

I was looking at 2-3 weeks otherwise if I didn't stumble on to the info stating the transfer programs were already on both computers. You just hook the usb cord between the 2 units, fire the program up on the new computer, then fire it up on the old computer and punch a single button and the transfer starts going. If you screw up somehow there is an undo button to put your new computer back to it's original out of the box settings and you can start over. Sure was neat to find out about that.

Hope this helps someone in the future.

You posted this a couple of weeks ago though. Did you go ahead and do it already? If so, did it work out for you? It would be interesting to hear how it went.

Being as we are members of the group of folks who grew up without computers, I'm always nervous when it comes to letting software do tasks I'm used to doing myself. I get that nervous feeling that I won't know if the software makes some kind of mistake or something. It takes getting used to I guess.

What kind of system did you buy? Any neat upgrades etc.?

So, I'm going to start using Toms basic tgp script, of which I still have an old zipped version. I havnt installed it yet but I can guarentee myself it will be 100% customisable as far as the finished appearence is concerned, and thats the importent bit for me.

I'd be a lot happier if there was a way of randomising the gallery thumbs that are displayed. Anyone know much about the script?

Good morning TNB. Getting started here on a Thursday before trotting off to
work.

I don't know if this will be useful to anybody here, but if you have any interest in
free stock photos, the website Pixabay now offers a WP plugin.

Here is the description from their website

"Installation through the 'Plugins' menu in WordPress is also available (* as of April, 2013). Once you've activated the plugin you’ll be able to search, edit, and insert images from Pixabay conveniently inside your WordPress content editor.

Features include:

Search Pixabay's public domain pictures via the "Add Media" button inside your post editor, or find it attached as new tab to WordPress' new Media Manager.
Filter search results by image type (clipart, photo) and/or orientation (landscape, portrait).

Preview images in paginated search results.
Direct image uploads to WordPress' media library.
Use of standard media dialogues for editing and inserting images.
This plugin is released as free software under GPLv2 license on WordPress.org / Pixabay Images.
Very special thanks goes to main developer Emilian Robert Vicol - aka byrev on Pixabay."

It seems like a handy tool to have. The website has quite a few photos available, but of course some categories have a more limited selection to choose from than others.

Here is the URL to the website if anyone would like to check it out
http://pixabay.com/en/blog/posts/pixabay-plugin-for-wordpress-36/

Hope everyone is doing ok.

Have a great day.

Thanks for the input on that dandy. I wasn't really sure what the value of that traffic
would be or if there would be much.

I agree with you about facebook and sites like it. The average surfer doesn't realize
that their information can be used by others to make a profit, while the surfer gets
nothing in return. Not to mention, of course, the fact that in their eagerness to reach
out to others and be part of the community, they frequently post information that can
come back to cause them problems or embarrassment later.

I haven't yet done anything to promote the blog, so I plan to do some work on that this weekend. Dandy mentioned pinterest for photos and I think I will try to add some to the site and link one or two. I don't have a presence on facebook yet. Is that a useful way to promote a blog?

I have a couple more domain names that I want to make blogs for. We'll see! Gotta stop being so lazy and do some work on those this weekend as well.

and for you younger folk, its a REAL b*tch getting old. plus, i didn't actually realize how bad my eyesight had gotten(considering i got new glasses a few months ago)...until i had to go to the bathroom at the clinic and got a good look at myself in the mirror.

sure, it was under florescent lights...but, d*mn, i looked OLD! interesting, though, i do not FEEL old - at all! so - go figure.

Hope everyone is in fine health coming into Spring. I have had lots of medical problems coming out of Winter so far. Have fell several times on frozen ice patches and hurt myself pretty bad at times. I hate ambulance rides to the hospital even though I used to drive Amublance years ago and helped lots of injured people out of their misery. I love helping people that really need the help. yesireeeeee I do

dandy11, RE: message #300565:

Hi Dandy,

Through a whole lot of trial n error, I found that when including an html file directly - ssi parsed as expected including any nested calls within. But calling an html file chosen by Tom's Random.php script..any nested calls within would not get parsed, though the original call worked fine.

Calling a 'randomized' php file worked like a charm every time.

It seems like there may be a setting in Apache or .htaccess line that might rectify this...but after throwing a zillion wet panties to the wall...nothing stuck lol...no hope of guessing it. Couldn't find anything through researching that worked either. tried a ton.

The shocker really came while contacting hosting tech support. After 3 contact attempts, the techs seemingly were unfamiliar with SSI ranging from no idea what to do to fix the problem (if there is a fix) to not even being familiar with SSI in total. Wow!
The tech support there has always been knowledgable in the past...but this issue...hmmmmm

My fix: Initially, I thought it may be impossible to do changes that may be needed but after a lot of file checking etal, I found it was only necessary to convert my html "ads" files to php files with a few minor other s+r things.
Still a pain, but doable.

soooooooooooo... is SSI using html archaic now?
Do you think most people are using php includes and essentially building php sites?
If so, is it more efficient using php files and includes?

When did SSI die? lol. I missed the obituary.

Thanks for lookin' out.
I've tried a few "nested" solutions...other than these 2 links..working on some things now from 1 of these..
Ironically, the "nested" calls DO work if the ad pages are .php

I can't figure out why .php works... .html cra-ps out.

I'll update when I learn more. Thanks again for the links

Hey Jeff

I haven't got much time right now to dig deeper (also not very familiar with newer PHP-versions) but try looking for "nested SSI" in the search engine of your choice.

I came up with some threads which seem to deal with your problem:
http://www.webproworld.com/webmaster-forum/threads/34642-Nesting-SSI-Need-help-please

http://www.1-script.com/forums/webmaster/nested-server-side-includes-222887-.htm

Note: The 'Spam' checker for the board doesn't say what word(s) are spam so all "ads" or similar words are edited in some way - - though not contributing to this problem)

ohhhhhhhhh...
Came upon an SSI parsing problem. (Using Tom's random-offer.php a dvert select script in conjunction with nested ssi calls within those a dvert .html pages) That being:

Tom's "random-offer.php" script selects 1 to 2 adverts for various areas, and sends it on its way to the the page. No brainer so far and works great.

Problem = (any nested) SSI calls within those a dverts are not being parsed. In this case, just 1 call is nested within, ...it's a simple searchform added to each a dvert.

All adverts, search forms, web pages are .html extension
Source code of course shows the unparsed call line...such as:
<!--#include virtual="/ssistuff/findit/searchformgarage/searchform.html" -->

However,when I load an a dvert page directly via its URL ( no random-offer.php used) ..it parses the nested ssi call as it should.

So apparently something within the random-offer.php code isn't allowing the nested parsing.

I know the html/php parse differences, but I was thinking the ssi parse would be After random-offer has made its selection.
Could I be wrong

Solution limitations would include page extension/file re-naming kinds of things as the volume makes it not feasible.

I have read that php 5.2X ( currently running) has given problems similar to this with SSI. True or not...don't know...Saw a variety of solutions re php 5.2...no 1 solution rose to the top that I found.
Cra.--.pshoo.-.t-o-rama.
I'm a bit Scared of php 5.3+ as so much from previous have been deprecated and back-compat doesn't work consistently..

-- Ideas to get around this problem?
Regarding:
.htaccess, server settings, script php changes/additions?

Any ideas, suggestions life preservers?

I feel like I'm missing seeing the trees through the forest.

Tom's Script Code:
<?php
// TEST MODE - SET TO on OR off
$test_mode = "off";

// RESET oADS
$oads = "";

// AND PICK AN oAD

// COUNT oADS

$dirhandle = opendir("ado-folder/");
while($filename = readdir($dirhandle)) {
if (ereg ("html", $filename)) {
$oads[]=$filename;
}
}
closedir($dirhandle);

$number_of_oads = count($oads);

if($test_mode == "on") {
print("There are <B>$number_of_oads</B> ads in the oads folder<BR>");
}

// SET THE RANDOM SEED
mt_srand(doubleval(microtime()) * 100000000);

// PICK A RANDOM NUMBER
$random_number = mt_rand(1, $number_of_oads);

if($test_mode == "on") {
print("");
}

$array_number = $random_number -1;

include("ado-folder/$oads[$array_number]");

I'm not sure the big G will get it indexed in time for anyone to find it though, but I
suppose it will be kicking around on the web for next year. lol

Happy weekend everyone.

Here in the USA we celebrate Martin Luther King day on Monday. My employer gives us a three day weekend
for it so of course I'm pleased.

Been so busy at the job that I really haven't had much energy for anything else. I think I should be writing some
relevant articles for Valentine's day for my chocolate blog. I will try to get a few articles in the pipeline this weekend.
Google might not get them listed in timefor this years Valentine's Day searchers, but I at least they will be
online for next year.

We are in a transition from paper documents to digital online records at the job. So of course, when you
take time away from the actual work to get trained on and set up the digital system, you watch as the paperwork
piles up on your desk waiting for you to come back and get caught up again. It is fun to learn the new system but watching
the work waiting for you when you are at the training sessions is stressful.

I always find it funny that clerical work can demand so much focus that I don't feel like thinking about anything when
I get home, but that I could do physical warehouse type work and come home exhausted and enjoy focusing on the web
work all night long. Go figure.

Hope your day goes well.

Good morning TNB.

Hi Jerryb.

Yes on the diabetes thing, I understand it is becoming more common here in
the USA. I know that there are two types. One tends to be related to having other health
issues including weight and the other seems to be inherited.

My doctor told me to lose weight, as my lab tests showed that my sugar levels were
higher than normal and I might be pre-diabetic. Got the weight down from around
220 pounds to around 178. I think I should go a bit lower, but at least I'm safer at this level.
I hadn't really thought I was to heavy to begin with though.

I know people who have it and as long as they keep it under control things seem to
work out for them but it isn't easy to do. And, yes if the blood sugar gets to high
it can be damaging to your system.

Hi Mr L.,
The GF and I - big Seinfeld fans - both loved the Festivus idea when it aired - though we weren't together at that time..
when we discovered both of us dug the idea, we decided we have to keep Festivus alive and well here at the house.

Ours goes a little bit different than the Costanza's, but the spirit is still there.

An addition we've made to Festivus -
- cover the gameroom walls with plastic, - get ourselves into a very festive kinda mood,
- attach pictures of those who have fucked with us in some way throughout the year to the pole -
- then shoot paintballs at 'em 'till they're obliterated.

'course , we can't always get individual's pictures, for those,
a company photo or at least the names printed still works.

Feels great while you're blasting them. It's a laughathon and more!

I never considered looking for a pole with matallurgical flaws. I imagine those poles would be more expensive. There's probably nothing that quite compares with the sight of the shiny pole ( or possibly brushed metal or matt finished ) on Festivus morning while everyone eagerly anticipates the Airing of Grievances and Feats of Strength later in the evening.

Hey Jeff ,

as I said: tuning MySQL by cautiously and gradually turning a few screws here and there can improve speed and performance a lot. If you have unused/empty/spare RAM and can fill it with a few extra tables or queries it will speed up your website.

Same goes for Apache: If you carefully tune it one step at a time, you can improve speed an performance quite a bit.

Please be aware: The tools I've shown only make good predictions if MySQL is run for at least 2 days. So make one adjustment, restart MySQL, wait 2 days, evaluate the effect, make the next adjustment, wait another 2 days...
